I did my presentation about Pilvi Takala (1981), who is a Finnish Performance-video artist.
In her work she deals with the unwritten rules and social structures and their meanings.
She is shaking the norms and breaking the feeling of secure in social situations by challenging the ”truth” that people have created.
In her work she wants to bring the invisible rules visible. Her work is always intervention in some situation or place. She is using hidden cameras in the situations and afterwords she edits the material in the form of a story.
Besides video, she has also presenting her work in the forms of a book, pictures and performance.
Also people´s reactions are important part of her work. She is interested of the reactions in the intervention but also the reactions that her ready made piece will make in the audience.
She is often surprised her self of the reactions that her interventions create, and usually she doesn't know the result when she starts her project.

Intervention that she started in shopping mall in Berlin where Pilvi Takala is walking around the mall keeping her money in a transparent plastic bag. She was behaving like a perfect customer, acting normal. But still ”for her own safety” the security officers are asking her to leave the mall. With her behavior she is creating a security problem, even though the mall is full with security cameras. It created this insecure feeling which is a treaty to the atmosphere of the shopping mall. It also creates a question what´s the difference of carrying cash in the bag instead of expensive shoppings? In both cases you are showing the others that you have money.

Pilvi Takala makes intervention in Disney World by trying to get in dressed up like Snow White. Security officers come and stop her from entering the park, because in the park there is a ”real Snow White” and the people might mix her with that. And there is a risk of misbehavior in her case
which is creating a threat to the amusement park.
The absurd thing is that the visitors are encouraged to dress up and in they are selling costumes in the shops, but they are only meant for the children.
