ODE TO ESPOO

The intervention is finally out in the wild. What got produced was a three part city space intervention.

First there is the physical act of placing art, or poetry in the city space, for the random passer by to find and enjoy.

Then there is a map of the Espoon Keskus area, without street names and with some imaginary places, but still tied to reality and fully usable. The map also includes a haiku walk that takes you to unexpected locations and interesting contemplations. The idea with the map is to loose yourself in the city, look at it with open eyes and try to find something magical and extraordinary in the mundane. The maps were placed in different public locations in Espoon keskus, for anybody to take and use.

Finally there is the online website where all the haiku can be found, accompanied by images of the scenes that inspired them. From there you can also download the map in pdf-format.

 ODE TO ESPOO

The project really opened my eyes to a place that I never regarded as worth visiting, and I hope that my poetry and map will inspire some others to enjoy their surroundings in a new way. Doing location based art and public interventions was also new to me, something of a small personal breakthrough from the traditional comfort zone.
